A. Residents are afforded the right to use tobacco products. There is no smoking allowed within the building. Those residents in the RCF can smoke outside of the building at their own discretion and do not require any staff supervision. Those in NF/SNF levels of care can also smoke, but, require staff supervision. We make attempts to offer reasonable opportunities by having staff members  take a resident outside to smoke when a staff member is able to take the resident outside. In other words, it means the resident may not go outside to smoke right at the time they would like to until a staff member is available to provide the necessary supervision. In regards to alcohol use, we only require a physician’s order to authorize alcohol use for any resident in the NF/SNF. We do place limits on the amount that is served. A resident in RCF may use alcohol at their own discretion. However, if behavioral “issues” start to occur due to alcohol use/intoxication, Cedar Health will take steps to address the issue, which could include asking the resident to move out if a solution can not be found that is agreeable for both resident and Cedar Health.
